Lómr means Loon.
Lómr (low-mer) is the ancient Norse word for Loon.
These aquatic birds call the clear blue waters and striking dunes of northwest Michigan home, as do we. Similarly to the loon, our work encourages conservation, respect and curiosity.
We know that a good story can change the world.
Our mission is to inspire people to spend more time in our natural world, and foster deeper connections with our fellow humans to harbor a better future for humanity and the natural world alike.

Our Team
-

-
Grant Piering - Founder & Editor
Grant has two feet deeply rooted in our natural world and spends most of his days on the water or in the woods. Always up for a new adventure and lover of all things analog - especially Super 8 film. His mission is to inspire people to spend more time outside and to give a shit about each other.
-
Sam Brown - Wordsmith

Born and raised near the waves of Long Island, his journey has taken him from surfing to design, from knifemaking to motion design, and to the helm of a business in Southern California. Now based in Northern Michigan, John's artistic pursuits are balanced with his love for the minimalist lifestyle, a connection to nature, and an unquenchable thirst for what's beyond the horizon.
-
Brian Raetz - Director
Brian was born and raised in Traverse City. Born, isn’t that wild? Life is cool and he’d like to keep it that way. Using his skills and interests for good, Brian is a writer and director who really enjoys connecting with people and making useful truth known.
-
Mia Hagerty - Director
A pragmatist, Mia studied math in college only to realize that being pragmatic is overrated. Mia now travels to nature-filled places to capture unique documentary stories - from 104’ below sea level to 13,000’ above.
-
Jessie Zevalkink - Photographer
Often combining classic portraiture with authentic delight, Jessie's artistry stems from an aptness to make people feel good, honorable, and understood. She loves people and the relationships she has with them fiercely. Always seeking symmetry in nature, blocks of sunshine and exceptional lighting, Jess is most present while observing and conversing with whom she is documenting.
-
Hallie Kohler - Photographer
Hallie loves taking photos, among other things. Unruly weather, farmer’s markets, lingering light, not going the highway route, her orange tabby cat, cooking meals for friends, the vastness of Lake Michigan, beach bonfires and watching the moon rise — being a few others. Her photography arises from a deep-set desire to document; and an impulse to record, assemble, and preserve impermanence.
